| The village of
Ebor is surrounded by world heritage areas, National Parks and
some of Australia's best waterfalls.
Point Lookout, located in New
England National Park is one of the highest places (1564 metres)
north of the Snowy Mountains. From this elevated location
the Pacific Ocean is visible 70km distant.
Walking tracks lead through
Antartic Beech forests below the escarpment of this ancient,
extinct volcano.
Wildlife is abundant - Eastern
grey kangaroos, possums, spotted-tail quoll, superb lyre birds,
cuckoos and kookaburras.
Just south of Ebor, the Guy
Fawkes River drops over Ebor Falls, a columned basalt rock of
115 metres. Although the Ebor Falls are not very high they
have some great views and interesting walks.
There are toilets, barbecue
facilities, running water and three viewing platforms which have
sweeping views of the falls and the Macleay Valley.
All this, only 45 minutes from
Armidale or just a
pleasant 1.5 hour drive from the
coast. |
